Black Pug Tutorials
The tutorials below will help you navigate the Black Pug system used by High Desert Council to create and manage event registrations. Black Pug is a third-party platform that allows Scouting America councils to manage event registrations, payments, and facility reservations.
Please note that automated notifications, including event confirmations and reminders sent through Black Pug, will come from 247scouting.com.
Setting Up Your Account
Creating a Black Pug account allows you to save your information and makes registering for High Desert Council events quicker and easier. You have the option to not make an account and sign-in as a guest.

Click here to create a new account or log in to an existing Black Pug account.
Please note that your Black Pug account is separate from your my.Scouting and Scoutbook accounts. Your login credentials are not connected, and password resets for Black Pug must be handled through the Black Pug platform.
Accessing Your Unit Roster
High Desert Council periodically updates membership rosters in Black Pug to make registering for council events easier and help verify that participants have current memberships and are registered with the correct unit.
Using the roster feature allows you to register youth and adult participants without having to manually enter all of their information. Anyone in your unit who has roster access through Black Pug can view and use the roster when completing event registrations.
Please note that High Desert Council can only update rosters for units within our council. We are unable to update or maintain rosters for out-of-council units.
Registering For Events
These tutorials will walk you through the Black Pug registration process, including navigating the main registration page, finding event information, updating participant details, and completing checkout.

Important: You must complete the checkout process to secure your participant's spot, even if there is no fee due. Adding a participant to a registration does not guarantee their spot. If checkout is not completed, the participant is not confirmed, and that spot may be made available for someone else to register.

Once registration closes, additional registrations are not guaranteed. Any requests to register after the deadline are subject to the event coordinator's approval. The event coordinator will determine whether space, supplies, and event arrangements allow for additional participants. Please register early so we can order patches and other supplies!
Where to Get Information
The event registration page is a great resource for finding important information before attending a High Desert Council event. Be sure to review the event details on the main page, along with any attached documents or resources. These attachments may include required health forms, leader guides, packing lists, schedules, and other important information to help you prepare for a successful event. We encourage all participants and unit leaders to review these materials ahead of time so everyone knows what to expect and what is needed before arriving.

There is also a support button on the bottom right of your screen that you can search videos!

Adding Participants and Changing Participant Types
If you need to add another participant to an existing registration or change a participant's type (for example, changing a youth registration to an adult), you can make those changes directly within your registration.
To get started, locate the Additional Actions dropdown menu in the Registration Contact section of your registration. You can also change MBU classes for youth.
Important: You must complete the entire Checkout process, including the payment step, for any changes to be saved. This applies even if no additional fees are due. If you are adding someone to a waitlist, you must also complete checkout to officially place them on the waitlist. Simply adding a participant without completing checkout does not register them or secure their place on the waitlist.
Please make these changes before the event's registration deadline. Once registration closes, changes and additional participants are generally no longer permitted. Any exceptions are at the discretion of the event coordinator.

Selecting and Changing Participant Classes
For certain High Desert Council events, including Merit Badge Universities, Summer Camp and Leader Specific Training, participants must select and enroll in classes as part of their registration.

Important Class Enrollment Information:
-
Class selections and removals are processed in real time. Classes may fill quickly, so we encourage you to make your selections early.
-
There are no waitlists for individual classes.
-
You can view current class enrollment numbers in the Class Attendee Counts report located in the Attachments section of the event registration page.
-
In most cases, participant class schedules can be changed until registration closes for the event. After the registration deadline, changes may no longer be available.
Accessing Reports
To access reports associated with your event registration, first log in to your Black Pug account and open the registration for the event. From there, select the Reports tab.
Important: Reports are only available when your registration balance has been paid in full. If there is an outstanding balance or a registration discrepancy, reports will remain unavailable until the balance is paid or the issue has been resolved.
Available reports may include:
-
Invoice: View your event registration invoice and payment details.
-
Participant Roster: View a list of registered youth and adult participants.
-
Participant Schedule and Prerequisites: Review class schedules and any required prerequisites.
-
Merit Badge Completions- HDC does export directly into Scoutbook after an event, However, you can also pull your own reports, view merit badge class completions and access the Scoutbook import file.
These reports are helpful tools for unit leaders to review registrations, verify participant information, and prepare for upcoming events.
