Thank you to everyone who joined us for the districts announcement at our October Roundtable!
High Desert Council is bringing back districts, with four to start: NE, NW, SE, and SW. Those names are placeholders. Permanent names will come from community suggestions, and a submission process will open soon. No single city anchors a district, and there is no competition between them. It is still one council, one Executive Board, and one Scouting community. The goal is smaller platforms that make it easier to build personal connections, with more individual attention on recruiting and program for every unit.
This is not meant to add work to your plate. It is meant to put more support closer to you.
THE SHORT VERSION
WHAT ARE DISTRICTS?
A District is a smaller geographic layer inside the council, manned by volunteers and staff focused on one area.
High Desert will have four: Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest.
The intermediate directions are placeholders for now. A naming process will open soon for the Scouting community to take part in the naming process for new districts.
no single city sits at the heart of any district. Our map was built for balance, not to favor one town over another.

MEMBERS AT LARGE: ADULTS WITHOUT A UNIT
We know some adult members are registered with the council but don't currently belong to a unit. Over the coming weeks, we are sorting our Members at Large manually, one by one. By the time Recharter begins, every adult member should be in place.
What this means for you:
- If you are a Member at Large, there is nothing you need to do right now. We will be in touch as you are placed.
- If you know of an adult who has been serving without a unit, or who wants to be connected, have them contact the Council office so we can make sure no one is missed.
